On April 4 and 5, the Office of Scholar Programs hosted 142 admitted first-year students for Stamps Scholars Weekend at Georgia Tech.
A portion of the weekend involved interviews as part of the final selection process for the Stamps President’s Scholarship and the Gold Scholarship programs. These scholarships are awarded to the top 1-2% of each admitted first-year class.
“Stamps Scholars Weekend is a time to celebrate truly excellent students and their accomplishments in reaching this stage of the selection process,” said Chaffee Viets, director of Scholar Programs. “Across multiple rounds of interviews and review of applications, these students have emerged as truly exemplary. It is an honor to recognize students’ journeys during this weekend, and to show them all Tech has to offer.”
The Stamps President’s Scholarship provides a full ride to cover tuition, fees, housing, a food service plan, books, academic supplies, and a stipend to purchase a laptop. In addition to covering immediate education expenses, the program also provides enrichment funds, faculty guide mentorship, annual cohort retreats, access to the nationwide Stamps Scholars Program network, and more resources for personal and professional development.
Stamps President’s Scholars go on to make an immense impact on campus and in the world while supported by these resources, with the most recent graduating class receiving multiple national and international accolades.
On Friday, students connected with other scholars, toured campus, met a current Tech student to serve as their host, and attended a celebration banquet.

On Saturday, alumni, faculty, and staff interviewed students for characteristics of scholarship, leadership, progress, and service, which act as the pillars of the two scholarship programs. To conclude the weekend, students had the opportunity to take photos with Buzz and the Ramblin’ Wreck.
At the conclusion of the weekend, the Scholar Programs staff quickly turned toward evaluating results of the interviews and event activities.
Of the scholars attending Scholars Weekend, 50 received the Stamps President’s Scholarship, and 20 received the Gold Scholarship. The Gold Scholarship award provides programming for all students, with Georgia residents receiving a scholarship to cover tuition, fees, and books, and non-residents receiving an out of state tuition waiver.
Both programs go above and beyond to support scholars and provide a close-knit community for students to thrive in.
“This is always a highlight of the year for our team, because we get to bring together talented students, faculty, and staff to envision the future of this program,” said Christal Dimas, associate director of Scholar Programs. “By extending invitations to these exceptionally talented students from across the state and world, we provide them with the chance to see themselves as part of the Yellow Jacket family, while giving us a deeper understanding of who they are beyond their applications. It’s a truly amazing weekend to be a part of, and we can’t wait to welcome the 2025 Stamps President’s and Gold Scholars in the fall!”
