Submit GT App, Prepare for Dec. 1 FAFSA Release

It’s time to apply for financial aid for the 2025-26 school year. There are two steps for continuing students and three for prospective incoming first-year students, and all students can start now with the 2025-26 Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid (GT App).

For those wondering when to apply, Financial Aid recommends starting as early as they can.

“It won’t come as a surprise that we strongly encourage starting your financial aid process as soon as possible with the GT App,” said Katie Conrad, executive director of the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. “When you start early, there’s time to resolve any issues you may encounter.”

The GT App is a short online form that helps Financial Aid identify what types of aid a student wishes to apply to receive.

In addition to the GT App, prospective first-year students should also complete the CSS Profile now. This profile gives Financial Aid additional information about a student’s financial background.

And though the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) won’t be available until Dec. 1, students can set up an FSA ID for both the student and parent(s) to save time later. The same FSA ID is used each year, so this is a one-time action. Once the FAFSA is available, the student and parent(s) will use their FSA IDs to complete it.

Georgia residents have one additional step to complete — the Georgia Student Finance Application (GSFAPP) — which is used to determine Hope/Zell Miller scholarship eligibility. This Georgia-specific form only needs to be completed once.

The priority deadline to apply for financial aid is January 31, 2025.

“There are online resources available to help students with the FAFSA and CSS Profile applications, and our office is happy to answer questions,” said Conrad. “It’s just important to build in time for this to ensure a complete application by Jan. 31.”

Conrad adds that for first-time students, it makes sense to apply whether or not you think you’ll qualify. For returning students, remember that both the FAFSA and the GT App are annual forms.
