Paul Kohn, vice provost of Enrollment Management at Georgia Tech, has been named the inaugural senior vice provost for strategic enrollment and student success at the University of Utah. His last day at the Institute will be February 28.
Under Kohn’s leadership, Tech has seen a quintupling of undergraduate admission applications, record-setting first-year and transfer class sizes, and a doubling of degrees awarded. Today, there are more Georgians studying at the Institute than ever before and his stewardship contributed to Tech becoming the largest university in the state of Georgia.
“I am extremely proud of what Enrollment Management and Georgia Tech have achieved during my time,” said Kohn. “And I am confident that this team will continue to make immense gains in the realm of access, excellence, and service. Though I am moving on, I will hold my time here close to my heart. The people I have met and the lessons I have learned have been nothing short of transformational, and for that I am truly grateful.”
Kohn’s responsibilities have included overseeing the Office of Undergraduate Admission, Registrar’s Office, the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, Enrollment Marketing and Communications, the Office of Scholar Programs, and the newly formed Office of Strategic Student Access.
He has also been a champion for the creation and expansion of student success programs at Tech, including mentoring initiatives for students in the Stamps President’s Scholars Program, Gold Scholars Program, and the G. Wayne Clough Tech Promise Program. Kohn also partnered in the establishment of programs like the Ignite Summer Launch Program, First-Year Semester Abroad, and the Provost Scholarship.
“Dr. Kohn has been an exceptional leader, helping the Institute make leaps and bounds in the realm of student access and strategic growth,” said Steve McLaughlin, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs. “His contributions helped define Tech as a powerhouse of excellence, and he has exemplified progress and service every step of the way. Though we will miss him, we wish him well on all his future endeavors.”
Kohn has traveled with Stamps President’s Scholars to Alaska, Iceland, and Arizona, and has collaborated with units across the Office of the Provost to continually improve the Tech student experience. His dog and loyal companion, Max, is also a dear friend to many students and staff.
Kohn has over two decades of higher education administration experience, with 14 years served at Tech. Prior to this role, he worked at the University of Arizona as the dean of Admissions and vice president for Enrollment Management.
In this new position at the University of Utah, Kohn will have direct responsibility for the integration of undergraduate, graduate, professional, and online education enrollment and student success strategies across the university. His new portfolio will include Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Studies, Global Engagement, University Connected Learning, Utah Asia Campus, and regional campuses in Utah and Ghana.
Though Kohn is moving on from Tech, he continues to take pride in the achievements of Enrollment Management team and Georgia Tech.
“Beyond growing enrollment from 20,000 to 50,000, we have also helped facilitate a continually improving Georgia Tech experience. Retention and graduation rates have risen, and more students than ever want what Tech has to offer,” said Kohn. “Thanks to collaboration between leadership, the Enrollment Management team, and our campus partners, we have truly been able to elevate Tech to incredible new heights. Go Jackets!”
Next steps for Kohn’s current role will be announced as they’re confirmed.
